Guide for career counsellors

How to start online career counselling in India, and what to charge

Career counselling moved online for a simple reason: the student in Salem and the professional in Pune want the same thing, a person who has seen many careers to look at theirs, and neither wants to travel for it.

This guide covers what counsellors and career mentors in India charge for a call, a session menu built around how students and professionals actually ask for help, how to prepare before the call, and how to time your effort around admission season.

Source: Public booking pages on Topmate (topmate.io) returned by Google for site searches, read on 9 October 2026. 23 career counsellors with at least one paid call. Paid one-to-one calls whose title named career guidance, career counselling or career coaching, listed in rupees. Mock interviews, resume and LinkedIn reviews, free discovery calls, and prices in other currencies were left out. Where one person listed several such calls of the same length, their cheapest counted. Only two listed a 15-minute call, too few for a range. Many of these pages belong to working professionals who mentor on the side, not full-time counsellors; it is a sample of the pages Google returned, not the whole market.
  • Half the 30-minute calls cost between ₹650 and ₹1,400, with ₹999 in the middle. That is the price a stranger compares you with.
  • Longer did not mean dearer. The median 45-minute call (₹750) cost less than the median 30-minute one, because many 45-minute sessions were low-priced student offers. Decide who each length is for before you price it.
  • The spread at an hour is wide, ₹799 to ₹2,999 for the middle half. The top end was counsellors who named a method (an assessment plus a written plan) or a senior career behind them.
  • Some mentors charged ₹199 to ₹299. Connecktor’s floors are ₹449 for 30 minutes and ₹849 for an hour, which suits counsellors who treat this as paid work rather than a favour.

A session menu to start with

On Connecktor you can offer 15, 30, 45 and 60 minute calls, each with its own price and a one-line description. These four are written for career counsellors; change the words to sound like you, and keep one short, cheap option for first-time clients.

Prepare before the call, not during it

The difference between a ₹300 chat and a ₹1,500 session is preparation. If the first fifteen minutes of a call are spent learning someone’s marks and degree, they have paid for a form.

  1. Sign up free at connecktor.com/onboarding and choose a handle a parent could type from memory, because it becomes your link: connecktor.com/your-name.
  2. In your dashboard, open Booking form and add the questions you always ask: current class or degree, marks or CGPA, the entrance exams they are taking, and the options they are already considering. For professionals, ask for their current role and years of experience.
  3. Make the main question required, and relabel it "What decision do you need to make?" so people arrive with one.
  4. Paste the session descriptions from the menu above, so a parent can see the difference between a 30-minute shortlist and a 45-minute family plan.
  5. Set your hours. Students book after college and on weekends; professionals book early mornings and late evenings.

Time your effort around admission season

Demand for career guidance in India is seasonal, and the calendar is public. Board results come out around May. Engineering and medical counselling rounds (JoSAA, state counselling, NEET counselling) run from June into August. Undergraduate admissions through CUET follow. Placement season in colleges runs from August to December, and appraisal season in companies around March and April sends professionals looking for a switch.

Post about each moment a few weeks before it arrives, and keep your calendar open while it is happening. A video explaining how counselling rounds work, posted the week results come out, will fill more calls than a month of general career advice.

Credentials, students and honest advice

Say what your guidance is based on: a counselling certification, the assessments you are trained to use, or the careers and hiring you have seen yourself. If you use psychometric tests, use only ones you are trained and licensed to give.

Everyone who books on Connecktor must be 18 or older. For students still in school, the parent or guardian makes the booking.

Do not promise admissions, jobs or salaries. You can say what has worked for people like them; you cannot guarantee a seat.

Payment stays on the platform. Once someone has booked through your page, do not ask them to pay you separately for the same session.

Questions

How much do career counsellors charge in India?
In our sample of 23 career counsellors and mentors on public booking pages in October 2026, the median was ₹999 for 30 minutes and ₹1,000 for an hour, with half of hour-long sessions between ₹799 and ₹2,999. Counsellors who include an assessment and a written plan charge at the top of that range.
Do I need a licence to give career counselling online?
India has no government licence for career guidance. Many counsellors hold a certification, and saying which one you hold, or what experience your advice comes from, helps a stranger trust you.
Can school students book a session?
Everyone who books must be 18 or older, so for students still in school a parent or guardian makes the booking.
Do clients need an app?
No. They open your link, pick a time, confirm their email or WhatsApp with a one-time code and pay. The call runs in their browser, and video is optional.
What does Connecktor cost?
Creating a page is free, with no monthly fee. Connecktor keeps 10% of each completed paid session and you receive 90%, paid out on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
